How to play Metin2 on Windows XP in 2019?

This title might be a little confusing for many, but yes - this is a problem! Couple of years ago all you had to do was to install Metin2 Client and voila! - you could play. Now it's a bit harder.

Since i am testing my Dell Inspiron 6000 i thought about Metin2 - it runs on DX8, has low requirements and do not require a lot of drive space. Metin2 is a fantastic MMORPG game, which can absorb hunderds of hours of gameplay. Since i've discovered that just installing game won't work (some weird "Failed to Load FCG: 13" errors) i've decided to dig a bit deeper and find out what i need to do to run this bueauty.

Many problems are connected with end of support for Windows XP. Many programs, framework and libraries are created in new architecture, which Windows XP can't understand. Some are built only to work under 64 bit architecture. That's what happened to Steam - you can't use it under Windows XP anymore... Same goes to Metin2 - new launcher doesn't like the 32 bit Windows XP. To make Metin2 work you have to do a lot of things...

Step 1.
Install Windows XP Service Pack 3

Step 2.
Install DirectX 9.0c

Step 3.
Install .Net Framework 3.5

Step 4.
Install .Net Framework 4.0

Step 5.
Install Visual C++ 2010 SP1

Step 6.
Install Visual C++ 2012

Step 6.
Install Gameforge Live (Old Patcher)

This whole setup took me about 4 hours to complete and my 6GB HDD was not enough... I had to replace it for another (40 GB IDE 2,5' - these are getting hard to buy). Of course i had to reinstall Windows, drivers, Service Pack and .Net Framewok 3.5. After running the Gameforge Live i was finally able to download all game files and set the graphics to run smoothly.

After all of the activities above the game started. Below is a photo of Dell with Metin2 turned on.

Along with my Old School Gaming i'm also going to write about Metin2. I hope you guys like this old MMORPG feeling, maybe someone would like to play with me? Search for CoolPCUser in game!
