Some time ago i went to a local scrap yard. My plan was to sell some old metal parts i had laying around, but while i was there i saw big pile of electronic junk someone just delivered.
My curiosity pushed me toward this electronic parts graveyard (of course with scrap yard owner permission) and i fount one item, that looked like it might be worth a shot. It was a notebook with "Dell" logo on it.
After a little inspection i fount out it is 15,6'' Dell Inspiron 6000 with good screen (not broken), all keys on keyboard and pretty good overall shape. It was missing only a battery! I asked the scrapyard owner for the price, and he was like "Put it on scale, i'll sell it for 5$ per kilogram". Scale showed 1,5kg, so i paid 7$ in total!
When i came back to home i searched for any charger that would fit, but unfortuneately i had none. It required 19.5 V charger with Dell-type connector. I ordered it online (price tag was around 15$), and after few days i could finally test my finding. Before i plugged the cable i opened the case and checked, that everything is connected well and all parts are on place. Then i closed the case, plugged the cable and it turned on! I've immediately ordered a battery (price tag was around 20$, but it was worth it).
The HDD was very noisy and had no OS on it, so i took Windows XP and installed on this very noisy hard drive (i checked it with HDD Health and it shows 98%, SMART gives no errors so i don't know why it's so noisy). It all runs fine for at least half a year now, so i'm thinking about full renovation - new HDD, RAM upgrade and case celaning. Here are some photos:

This Dell is definetely not suitable to use it on daily basis (web surfing or working), but i have an idea - i'm going to use this laptop as a portable NES / SNES / MegaDrive emulator. Maybe even PSX emulator! I'm planning to write about it later this month, so stay tuned!
Any ideas on what i can use this laptop for? I am thinking about Counter Strike 1.6 portable machine (i tested it and it runs in smooth 60 FPS). Good opportunity to throw CS1.6 LAN party one day!
